Young Street

Along the Mole Gap Trail…

A Second Word War road and Canadian legacy.

During the Second World War, Canadian forces were stationed in various buildings in Leatherhead, including Thorncroft Manor. They left a legacy in two very contrasting ways: two maple trees, their national tree, planted in the grounds of the Manor and the construction of Young Street, now the A246 road between Leatherhead and Guildford.

As you progress along the trail you will pass under the road bridge across the river that forms part of this road. It was named after Colonel Young, the Canadian commanding officer.
