Lodge Farmhouse

Along the Mole Gap Trail…

A mid-17 Century Grade 2 listed farm house.

The Trail is rich in historic buildings, many of which are listed by English Heritage because of their architectural or historic interest. They vary hugely in age and character from the grand houses of Norbury Park House and Cherkley Court, to public buildings such as Leatherhead Railways station. They also include small domestic buildings such as this building on the trail: Lodge Farmhouse Cottage, a 17th Century house. Domestic buildings of this type were almost always built of local materials: clay bricks and tiles, timber, flint or sandstone. With age they mellow into the surrounding landscape. The diversity of local geology has provided a wonderful range of building materials that are easy on the eye.
