Sunday, 13 September, 2015 - Sunday, 20 September, 2015
Booking deadlines extended:
Sunday 13th September, latest receipt of booking forms now 6pm Wednesday 9th September.
Sunday 20th September, latest receipt of booking forms now 6pm Wednesday 16th September.
The Mayor of Waverley (Mike Band) – who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Surrey Hills AONB Board has nominated the Surrey Hills Trust Fund as one of the charities for his mayoral year. Working in partnership with Surrey Hills Society, he will be undertaking a sponsored walk along the Greensand Way across the breadth of Waverley borough. SHS members, friends and supporters are invited to join him for all or part of his route.
On Sunday 13th September the route will start at Haslemere and, with a lunch stop at Thursley, will continue to the Merry Harriers at Hambledon. Continuing from this point on Sunday 20th September, we will make our way via Shamley Green to a finish point in the Ewhurst/Holmbury area.
Each day the walk will be about 12 miles – although you may book to join in for just a morning or afternoon session. You should note that the Greensand Way is very hilly and has variable unmade surfaces. Consequently, the event is not suitable for those with hip or knee problems or who are unable to maintain a reasonable pace.
This event is suitable for obedient dogs on leads – subject to distance – but is unsuitable for young children.
We would re-emphasise that the event is definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility challenges.
Refreshments will be available at the start point each day and a good buffet lunch will also be provided. Since there are a range of options for you to select from for walk sections, catering and transport, the booking form is more complex than usual. Please read it carefully and tick the elements for which you wish to book.
The whole reason for the walk is to raise funds for the Surrey Hills Trust Fund. However, Surrey Hills Society also needs to cover the significant organisational costs and provide a surplus for its own funds. Consequently, the price of this pair of walks (which are roughly equivalent to a pair of half-marathons) is greater than our normal walk costs.
Please see the booking form below for details of costs.
On the topic of sponsorship, there are a number of options:
- Whether or not you are participating, you may wish to sponsor the Mayor of Waverley. This can be done via bt.com/fundraisers/surreyhillssponsoredwalk
- The SHS Chairman (Chris Howard) and Vice-Chairman (Ken Bare) will be amongst the SHS members, friends and supporters taking part in the walk. You may choose to sponsor them instead of the Mayor – the money will still end up with the Trust Fund. You can do so at bt.com/fundraisers/surreyhillstrustfundwalk
- If you are joining us for part – or all – of the walk you may want to ask your friends and colleagues to sponsor you separately. A form will be available to help you do so – just let us know and we will email it to you
Alternatively, if you are joining us for part – or all – of the walk you may wish to ask your friends and colleagues to sponsor you separately. A form will be available to help you do so – just let us know and we will email it to you
This event is open to members and non-members of the Society but pre-booking is essential. To join us, please complete and return the attached booking form to arrive at Warren Farm Barns before Wednesday 9th September for the first Sunday or Wednesday 16th September for the second Sunday.
