Merrist Wood College Guildford Surrey GU3 3PE
We are the outdoor, expedition and wilderness first aid experts delivering courses for over 20 years.
When working outdoors it can take more time for professional help to arrive, therefore remote first aid is a crucial life-saving skill. We believe that the best way to gain these skills is through hands-on, practical outdoor first aid training, which is enjoyable and leaves people with the knowledge and confidence to know what to do in an emergency.
The course content is primarily based in the outdoors and recreates emergency scenarios to test your knowledge of responding to an incident where help is not immediately available. Our course is taught through a range of practical scenarios and casualty simulation using the wonderful outdoor space of the South Down.
This is a 16 hour course, delivered over two 8 hour days. The two days are completed outside with practical learning scenarios.
This course covers the following content:
- Primary assessment
- Recovery position
- Choking management
- Management of an unconscious casualty
- Secondary assessment
- Major trauma
- Head, chest and internal injury
- Spinal recovery position

- Cold related injuries
- Management of fractures
- Common medical emergencies
On successful completion of the course delegates will receive a Remote Outdoor First Aid certificate which is valid for 3 years.
