Meet the Artist days: Fri 12th, Sat 13th and Fri 19th, Sat 20th. 11am – 4pm.
Forest Listening is a Surrey Hills Arts project that records the sound of rainfall from within trees, in puddles and beneath ground. Artist Liz Miller takes this audio data into print making creating textile banners. These banners form a listening zone which can be experienced within the Limnerslease Woodland at Watts Gallery throughout June.
The ‘Meet the Artist’ days offer an opportunity to hear a range of soundscape recordings gathered from listening to trees in the Surrey Hills. You can view the display of research and artwork in the Limnerslease Studio which reveals the process of visually mapping the soundscapes to explore the intricacies and details of the recordings. The sound maps explore the qualities of the sound of trees, such as pitch, volume, texture and rhythm. You can also gain an insight into the artist’s making methods for these artworks from cartographic drawing to cyanotype blueprints and natural dye techniques – using tree materials to extract colour to use as an image making material.
There will be regular opportunities to experience the audio-visual outdoor installation with Liz Miller throughout these days. For more information click here.
