Exploring Banstead Woods
Sunday 8th May, 2016
Meeting at Chipstead Station, 10.30am for 11am prompt start
Come and join the Surrey Hills Society on this easy walk around beautiful Banstead Woods, which appeared in author HG Wells’ sci-fi novel “The Time Machine”. It was once a medieval deer park and Anne Boleyn was one of its many owners. Saved from development during Victorian times by local campaigners and the Corporation of the City of London coming to the rescue in 1877, the area is now run by the Banstead Common Conservators.
Time of arrival is from 10.30am to leave at 11am. If you are not there by 11am the group will go without you.
Grid reference: TQ276 582. Postcode for Sat Nav: CR5 3TD. Parking is available at the station.
The walk will be guided at all times.
Lunch is not included. Please bring some snacks/packed lunch if you wish, which you can eat on the green or join us in the pub for a drink or a mea after the walk.
This walk requires a reasonable level of fitness.
Please also bring suitable clothing, walking shoes/boots for the day.
The walk should take no longer than 3 hours (6 mile), but it will depend on the size and speed of the group.
This visit is suitable for dogs but they will be advised at times to put them on a lead near roads/farmland.
This is a free event but again booking is essential. Please contact either the Surrey Hills Society or Chris Howard, who will be leading the trek, on email@example.com or phone/text 07879-841000.
