Surrey County Council and Birtley Estate joined forces to found Surrey Hills Enterprises CIC:

The Birtley House Group Ltd predominantly provides full nursing care and supported living at Birtley House in Surrey. The Nursing Home is one of the oldest private care homes, still managed by the founding family, in Britain.
Birtley House was a designated Showcase for Surrey County Council’s energy event in 2011 for its extensive environmental activities including biomass heating for the care home and it hosts the Surrey Hills Wood Fair and a major sculpture exhibition amongst many other events attracting over 10,000 visitors each year.
The Birtley House Group, helped set up Surrey Hills Enterprises CIC, with the aim of building a brand for the Surrey Hills, promoting local produce and helping to conserve the local environment. They also own a 50% share in Surrey Hills Enterprises.

Surrey County Council is the county council that governs the non-metropolitan county of Surrey in England. The council is composed of 81 elected councillors and is responsible for a number of local public services in Surrey. These include the standard responsibilities of county councils in England and Wales such as Transport and highway management, Waste disposal (but not collection) and education.

Surrey County Council have a 50% share in Surrey Hills Enterprises and see it as a driver to deliver many of their rural business objectives.
