Nestled amongst the Surrey Hills you will discover the tranquil and calming river valleys of the Wey, Tillingbourne and Mole. For a more dramatic landscape and large expanse of water head west to Frensham Little Pond and Great Pond. Set amongst the heathland the ponds offer a sanctuary for wildlife with the Great Pond boasting a sandy beach!
Although more popular at the coast, Paddle Boarding does take place in the Surrey Hills. The Lagoon in Buckland is a popular spot with wetsuit hire available. Organised by the Surrey Hills Adventure Company there is a 2.5km course with a variety of sessions available.
Wild swimming is swimming in any natural bodies of water – whether it be a lake, pond, river, or the ocean and it is gaining in popularity. In England and Wales, a “right to roam” law means most lakes and rivers are open to swimming but there are some exceptions so it is important to confirm that you have access before you start swimming. The Surrey Hills boasts many river valley’s and ponds that you can enjoy wild swimming in. We always recommend you follow all safety precautions when undertaking wild swimming and visit the Outdoor Swmming Society website for where you can swim and getting started.
