This heritage trail takes in the extensive site of the Gunpowder Works at Chilworth, which boasts possibly the most prominent (and famous) remains of the Tillingbourne mills. Great walk. Gunpowder ponds picturesque and interesting. Then a turn uphill - steep but not very long - before arriving at the plateau (and a little more ascent in the sand) up to the majestic church, St Martha-on-the-Hill, at the summit. Amazing views and truly beautiful scenery, before a steep descent back down and a saunter back to the mill ponds, passing a vineyard. Suitable for all ages 6+, and fitness levels, with plenty of variety to keep everyone interested along the way!
We found this walk so interesting - well worth doing.
