Cows ready for the Surrey auction

GraphicresizelargeWhat’s happened to the cows everyone is asking! Fear not they are currently grazing all together back at the Farm and getting ready for their next big adventure – the CowParade Surrey auction at Sandown Park Racecourse on 20 October.

The world’s largest public art event, saw over 60 full-size, fibreglass cows uniquely decorated by artists and placed around Surrey during the summer months for people to admire and find. The idea behind CowParade is that cows are sponsored by businesses, decorated by artists and auctioned off to raise lots of mooolaa for charities!!

Each cow has now been assessed by a panel of judges who have expertly decided which cow heads to the Surrey auction at Sandown Park on 20 October and which cow heads to the ‘Gala’ auction at Hampton Court Palace on 17 November.

sandown-park-entranceOver 40 of the cows will be auctioned at Sandown Park – quite a spectacle! The auction evening which starts at 6pm will showcase the cows in the magically lit parade ring, with a three course meal being served before the auction commences at 8pm. Then the fun begins and the opportunity to own a truly unique piece of art for the highest bidder! The cows will be auctioned by Ewbank’s, the Premier International Antiques and Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers in Surrey and Hampshire who are able to take on-line bids prior to and during the event at www.ewbankauctions.co.uk.

Tim Metson, CowParade Leader comments “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own your very own piece of art that can be situated either inside or outside. Each cow has been uniquely decorated, many by professional and up-and-coming artists. The cows will support over 52 charities many of which are Surrey based – a fantastic end to the project.”

Each cow sponsor has chosen a charity of their own to benefit from the auction proceeds of their cow, with a percentage going to the Surrey Hills Trust Fund. The fund in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey helps to safeguard and protect the Surrey Hills for future generations. The Community Foundation for Surrey is an independent charitable trust established to inspire local giving for local needs. They work with donors who want to give something back to their local communities and voluntary groups providing vital services for local people and disadvantaged individuals.

Wendy Varcoe, Executive Director of the Community Foundation for Surrey comments; “ The Surrey Hills Trust Fund is an exciting local initiative enabling local residents to donate now to protect and conserve the stunning natural landscape and help local communities to access and enjoy the Surrey Hills for generations to come.”
