Call for volunteers for Tillingbourne Tales project

villagegreenandrivertillingbourneabingerhammerThe Tillingbourne Tales, the new Heritage Lottery Funded project which is supported by the Surrey Hills Society, invites the various communities along the valley to work together and engage in this unique nationally important historic landscape by:
•    Researching and archiving the industries
•    Creating characters based on this research for each village
•    Recording heritage trails throughout the valley
•    Capturing local knowledge through oral histories
•    Working with river wardens to monitor and record

To achieve this, we are actively seeking enthusiastic volunteers who wish to be a part of recording and preserving the Tillingbourne’s fascinating history and heritage. Specific tasks include helping to:
•    Collate the research and upload it to the website
•    Upload to and manage the social media accounts
•    Research the local industries and historic places
•    Identify heritage trails throughout the valley
•    Develop stories around the industries to engage younger audiences
•    Research a ‘character’ for each community who can best be identified with its local industry
•    Engage with the school and family groups through community events and workshops

If you would like to be involved, please express your interest by contacting our Project Coordinator, Dr Anne Sassin, at tillingbournetales@gmail.com (Tel. 07749455381)
