Silent Pool schnapps takes Austria by storm

Silent Pool award winning Eaux de VieSilent Pool Distillery from Albury was the upstart that upset a centuries old tradition in Austria last week. The one year old company created its first range of Eaux de Vie in the magical summer of 2015 when Kent orchards groaned with fruit. Tonnes of pears, quinces, apricots and plums all found themselves being transformed into fabulous aromatic spirits.

And these have just bowled over the judges at the World Best Schnapps Awards run by Destillata in Austria. The quince gained maximum possible marks for flavour, closely followed by the pear – winning both spirits a Gold Medal. The apricot won Bronze.

This amazing result in the heartland of Schnapps production is a huge success for the Silent Pool. Co founder of the distillery, Ian McCulloch, said: “Eaux de vie are more complex spirits to produce and proving that we can create these subtly flavoured spirits and win on the international stage demonstrates the versatility and potential of our distillery.

“We have a great creative team here with distillers Cory Mason and Tom Hutchings and we have built up an impressive portfolio of award winning gin, eaux de vie, vodka and gin cordials in little over a year.”

The Schnapps triumph came hard on the heals of success for Silent Pool Gin with Gold in the World Spirits Awards held in Austria, and Silver in the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. A second silver will be awarded later this monThe Silent Pool Distillery is situated just off the A25 at Albury, in Surrey, overlooking the pool itself.
