Along the Mole Gap Trail…
Built in 1867 by Charles Henry Driver for the London Brighton and South Coast Railway. The line to Dorking opened on March 11th 1867 alongside the railway station itself.
Charles Henry Driver was an important Victorian architect. He was an expert in the early use of decorative ironwork and there are some fine examples in the slender columns and ornamental brackets on the station canopy. The Leatherhead to Dorking railway and the infrastructure associated with it is rather special as you will see later on the trail.
