‘Have a Butchers’ is the latest addition to CowParade Surrey. This beautiful moo has been designed with food in mind and is one of a trio of cows sponsored by Waitrose. Taking centre stage in the town of Haslemere, she was officially unveiled with quite an audience by Councillor Sahran Abeysundara the Haslemere Town Mayor.
Her vivid design was created by artist Diana Boyle of Rooftop Illustrations, she comments; “’Have a Butchers’ is inspired by different cuts of beef, and interpreted using a bright and bold colour spectrum across a variety of typographic styles.“
CowParade is the world’s largest public art event which is seeing lots of brightly decorated fibreglass cows placed in popular landmarks across the county during the Summer. The idea is that each cow is ‘Sponsored’ by a business, school or charity and decorated by a local artist. The cows are put out to graze and dotted around Surrey until the end of August for all to see. A specially designed app, is free to download from cowparadesurreyhills.com and allows each cow to be virtually collected. Discover lots about each cow, win rosettes, take part in quizzes and more. Those who find all the cows will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury Kuoni holiday for two to Mauritius!
Spokesperson from Waitrose comments; “We’re delighted to be supporting CowParade and are delighted to see the beautifully decorated cows grazing outside our shops in Surrey. Our customers are sure to be intrigued by each of the designs and we hope they’ll be inspired to download the app and find all of the other cows in the area!”
The autumn will see the cows auctioned off for charity. Waitrose have nominated the Princes Countryside Trust to benefit from the auction proceeds of their three cows. The charity established by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2010 exists to improve the prospects of family farm businesses and the quality of rural life.
The Surrey Hills Trust Fund will also benefit from the auction of ‘Have a Butchers’. Established in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey, the Surrey Hills Trust Fund helps to conserve and protect the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, supporting local community projects and enterprise schemes that benefit and enhance the Surrey Hills landscape. The other two Waitrose cows are situated outside the Egham and Guildford stores – make sure you download the app to collect all three!
