This summer the team at Leith Hill Place have put together a full programme of fun activities ranging from outdoor fun with the rangers, to the first ever outdoor theatre performance in the grounds.
The fun begins on Wednesday 2 August when Chapterhouse Theatre will be bringing the story of Peter Pan to life. Expect lots of swashbuckling, sword fight and laughter. The performance will take place outdoors, so audience members need to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and are also welcome to bring a picnic. There are two performances, one at 2pm and one at 6pm, and tickets can be booked on 0344 249 1895, £15 per adult, £10 per child. Drinks and cakes will be available during the interval, but the house won’t be open.
Each Wednesday from 9 until 30 August, the Leith Hill rangers will be offering a special trail, linked to the National Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’. Families will be able to pick up a trail map from Leith Hill Place and explore the gardens and grounds, trying out activities such as bug hunting, making a trail with sticks and creating natural art. The house won’t be open, but hot and cold drinks will be available to buy. This is a free event, but donations are welcome.
To celebrate the Wedgwood collection returning to Leith Hill Place, there’s a Wedgwood inspired family fun day on Monday 7 August, from 11am-2pm. Working with clay and drawing silhouettes, families will be able to explore the Wedgwood ceramics and be inspired to create their own works of art. Only the ground floor of the house will be open and hot and cold drinks will be available to buy. £3.50 per child, free entry for adults. Booking advisable on 01306 711685.
Finally, Leith Hill Place’s first ever artist in residence will be offering drop-in all-age workshops on Fridays 11 and 18 August between 2 and 4:30pm. Louise Scillitoe-Brown has been exhibiting at Leith Hill since mid-June and her installations have been changing throughout the summer. Her work is inspired by colour and light, which will be reflected in the workshops. Normal admission charges apply. Booking not needed, but there may be a slight delay at busy times.
