The Mayor of Guildford (Cllr Gordon Jackson) – has nominated the Surrey Hills Trust Fund as one of the charities for his mayoral year. Working in partnership with Surrey Hills Society, he and his wife, Sue will be undertaking a sponsored walk along the North Downs Way across the breadth of Guildford borough. SHS members, friends and supporters and members of the public are invited to join him for all or part of his route.
The route will start at The Sands Village Hall, with a lunch stop at St Catherine’s, Artington. It will continue to Silent Pool, Albury, where we will finish with afternoon tea at Albury Organic Vineyard.
The walk is about 15 miles – although you may book to join in for just morning or afternoon sessions – or simply join the Mayor for lunch or afternoon tea, if you prefer. You should note that the North Downs Way is hilly and has variable unmade surfaces. Consequently, the event is not suitable for those with hip or knee problems or who are unable to maintain a reasonable pace.
This event is suitable for obedient dogs on leads, but is unsuitable for young children.
We would re-emphasise that the event is definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility challenges.
Refreshments will be available at the start point and a good buffet lunch will also be provided. Since there are a range of options for you to select from for walk sections, catering and transport, the booking form is more complex than usual. Please read it carefully and tick the elements for which you wish to book.
The whole reason for the walk is to raise funds for the Surrey Hills Trust Fund. However, Surrey Hills Society also needs to cover the significant organisational costs and provide a surplus for its own funds. Consequently, there is a cost for coming on the walk payable to the Surrey Hills Society and then it is hoped that you will also consider asking friends to sponsor you on the walk itself to raise funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities – The Surrey Hills Trust Fund and the Surrey Cancer Research Institute.
Please see the booking form below for details of costs.
On the topic of sponsorship, there are two options:
- Whether or not you are participating, you may wish to sponsor the Mayor of Guildford. This can be done via mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/gordonjackson1
- If you are joining us for part of the walk you may wish to ask your friends and colleagues to sponsor you separately. A form is available to help you do so – just let us know and we will email it to you.
This event is open to members and non-members of the Society but pre-booking is essential. To join us, please complete and return the attached form to arrive at Warren Farm Barns before Wednesday 28th September.
Please include your e-mail address or a stamped addressed envelope so you may be sent full details, directions and locations for the event.
