Farnham station Farnham GU9 8AD
Sunday 3rd July 2016
Meeting at Farnham Station, 10.30am for 11am prompt start
Come and join the Surrey Hills Society on this easy walk around fascinating Farnham. High above the town is Farnham Castle, which was the home of the Bishops of Winchester for over 800 years. It became a wealthy market town during Georgian times although many buildings are much older, often hidden behind Georgian facades. Many famous authors lived or are closely associated with the town including J.M. Barrie, Jonathon Swift, William Cobbett, Alfred Tennyson and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Time of arrival is from 10.30am to leave at 11am. If you are not there by 11am, the group will go without you.
Grid ref: SU844 465 and Postcode for Sat Nav: GU9 8AD. Parking is limited around the station, so best to park at the Sainsbury’s car park in South Street and walk up to Railway station.
This walk requires a reasonable level of fitness and will be guided at all times. The walk should take no longer than 1½ hours (3 mile), but it will depend on the size and speed of the group. Please bring suitable clothing, walking shoes/boots for the day.
Dogs are welcome but it will be advised at times to put them on a lead near roads.
Lunch is not included. Please bring some snacks/packed lunch if you wish, which you can eat in Gostrey Meadows or join us in the pub for a drink or a meal after the walk.
This is a free event, but booking is essential. Please contact either The Surrey Hills Society or Chris Howard who will be leading the walk on [email protected] or phone/text 07879841000.
