This event is now fully booked.
How many times and from how many angles have you seen St Barnabas Church on Ranmore? It is certainly a landmark in the surrounding area and is commonly known as the ‘Church on the North Downs Way’. “Why is this extraordinary building here apparently in the middle of nowhere?” is a question which often occurs to many visitors. We have been fortunate to organise a tour of the church and the surrounding area when all will be explained. The links to Denbies, the Cubitt family and the architect George Gilbert Scott will all be revealed, as well as the nature of the congregation for whom the church was originally built.
The visit begins with coffee and biscuits at Denbies Vineyard, where you can park and leave your car. Meet at 9.45, and the party will leave promptly at 10.15 to walk up the hill to Ranmore. We will meet our guide there and the tour will last about an hour. We will then retrace our steps to the vineyard, where a space will be reserved for us to sit together. Lunch of your choice can be purchased at your own expense from the servery.
The walk is approximately 1 ½ miles each way, climbing up to the church and then back down to Denbies. Although the event is not particularly suitable for children it would be possible for them to take part if they can walk that far, but it is not suitable for pushchairs. No dogs because of the visit to the church. The event will take place whatever the weather so please come suitably dressed for the conditions, and wear strong shoes.
For those with mobility issues, it would be possible to meet with us at Denbies and then drive up to meet us at the church, but if you would like to do this, please let us know on the booking form.
The cost will be £8 (£10 non-member), which will include coffee/biscuits and the tour, but not lunch.
Booking is essential. If you would like to join us would you please complete and return the attached slip to arrive at Warren Farm Barns before Tuesday, 14th July.
