Concept Statement

Following extensive public involvement and consultation, Hindhead Together approved a Concept Statement containing principles for re-development of the crossroads area.

Following the Public Launch Meeting of Hindhead Together in November 2007, the committee commissioned a Concept Statement to be produced by The Planning Cooperative for the Hindhead crossroads area.

The process included a Community Workshop in February 2008.  The purpose of the workshop was to identify assets in the Hindhead area.  These could be buildings, views, historical interest points or even feelings e.g. tranquillity.
Once identified by members of the local community, the assets were discussed and worked into a set of draft principles for development.

We held a Public Community Exhibition in March 2008, which was attended by over 350 people.  At the exhibition the Planning Cooperative tested the draft Concept Statement, including the principles for redevelopment, to see whether they received support from the community.

The overall feedback was very positive with over 65% of respondents indicating that they thought the plans were 'good' or 'very good'.

The planning Cooperative refined and adapted the Draft Concept Statement according to feedback from the Exhibition and the final Concept Statement was presented to Hindhead Together at the end of March 2008.

With Hindhead Together pleased with the results, the document was endorsed and recommended to the Executive Committee of Waverley Borough Council, the local Planning authority. They in turn presented it to the full Council at their meeting in July 2008.

We are delighted that Waverley Borough Council, the local planning authority accepted the assets and principles within the document as a material consideration to be taken into account in any planning decisions for the area.
